Tove Styrke's Album Is Good For Anytime

(300)

I'm a bit of a freak when I become obsessed with a music genre. Swedish pop is my current obsession. What better way to start looking for Swedish artists than the Swedish Idol contest! With this, I found the very pretty Tove Styrke who came in third this year. Despite this, she released an amazing album.

The self titled debut album is a big indicator that this girl should have won. At the very beginning you are entranced by the beat and lyrics of "Beating on a Better Drum." There is simply no better way to start this album of heartbreak and the trials that come along with it. Throughout the album, you can understand that she doesn't particularly like the feeling of being without her guy but there are also many times where she doesn't want to fix the situation herself.

The album quickly takes a different turn with another favorite of the album, “Bad Time for a Good Time.” This bitch is looking to get dirty; however, she is cock blocked by the dudes’ girlfriend. After this the album takes a more delicate and happy turn. The direction of the music also changes, from the heavy bass and electronic beats to more a delicate airy, synthesizing air to it.

For the most part, this album is really fucking good. I honestly can’t stop listening to it and I have discovered different parts of it that I like each time. However, the ending of the album is very weak and should have followed the beginning. With collaborations from indie superstar, Lykke Li, the lyrics are very direct and hook you with each line sung. I hope she is a breakout star in America because this album is one of the best pop albums of the decade. Happy listening.
